  • Auberge Montebello
Located as you enter the town of Montebello, near the Outaouais river, this Victorian style inn is a former school. A new pavilion has been attached to the original building. Several tourist attractions to visit, including the Omega Park a few minutes' drive from the inn, where you can observe wildlife in their natural habitat. An excursion to Ottawa (Canada's Capital) and Gatineau for a museum tour that includes the magnificent Museum of Civilization, in Gatineau.
  • Auberge le Moulin Wakefield
Once in Ottawa or Gatineau, continue north toward Maniwaki, until the town of Wakefield, located in Gatineau Park. A 25-minute drive from Ottawa-Gatineau. The stone inn dates back to 1838 and is built next to the MacLaren waterfalls. This former flour and textile mill was destroyed by fire in 1910. Once rebuilt, it served strictly as a flour mill. The entire region is home to a vast choice of excursions and activities, including the Wakefield steam train (5-hour round trip, departure from Gatineau).
  • Suggestion
When returning to Montréal, we recommend you stay at the charmingly refined Auberge des Gallant in Sainte-Marthe/Rigaud, 40 minutes from Montréal via Highway 40.

Setting a course for the Eastern Townships

The Eastern Townships have a rich past, one they share with New England in particular because of the Loyalists who fled north during the American Revolution. They were followed by scores of settlers from Scotland, Ireland, England and Switzerland.

Itinerary: Montréal - Knowlton/Lac Brome – Québec City or back to Montréal, or continue toward New England.

Highway 10 East (Eastern Townships Autoroute), Exit 90 toward Knowlton, Route 243 South. A 90-minute drive.

  • Auberge Lakeview Inn
This delightful heritage inn was constructed in 1874. It is located in the small Victorian village of Knowlton-Lac Brome, once the heart of the Loyalist community. The inn originally bordered Lac Brome, hence the name. Over time, the water receded and the town grew. Today, you can no longer see the lake from the inn. Inside the inn, antique furniture and paintings contribute to the charm of the Auberge Lakeview Inn. Interesting activities nearby:
    • Tour of the Abbey of Saint-Benoît-du-Lac
    • Wine route (Dunham)
    • Orford Festival (classical music) and Orford Arts Centre (Magog)
  • Estrimont Suites & Spa
This hotel, recently refurbished, offers a great view over the Mount Orford, where there are outdoor activities year round with a ski station and a golf course among others. It is located at only a few minutes from the lovely town of Magog as well as next door to the Orford Art Centre.
  • Auberge Ripplecove & Spa
This charming and elegant inn is located on a small peninsula, on the south shore of the Lake Massawippi. During the prohibition era, this place was famous for the bootlegging. But since this period, this have change a lot, and the inn is one of the most renowned in the province.
  • Back to Montréal or continue deeper into the region
Pointing your compass toward Québec City, we recommend a stopover at the Victorines du Lac inn, by Lac Mégantic (at the eastern edge of the Townships). A Victorian style establishment surrounded by a vast, peaceful garden with magnificent trees.

Option of continuing toward the U.S., to nearby states (Boston, Vermont and New York).

A quick stop at the Festival de musique de Lanaudière

Québec is well-known for the many and varied festivals it hosts, including the classical music festival of Lanaudière, near St-Jean-de-Matha, 90 minutes by car northeast of Montréal, through the town of Joliette.

An oasis of peace, located at the edge of a cliff (hence the name, which translates into 'carved mountain') and home to truly refined cuisine and myriad outdoor activities. An ideal base from which to enjoy the incredibly popular Festival de musique de Lanaudière. Concerts at the Joliette amphitheater and inside the region's churches.
  • Suggestion
