You have three choices

The St.Lawrence River

The St. Lawrence river is so majestic it leaves an impression on everyone. Sightseeing circuits on either side of the river meander across the different regions of the province, telling the story of the river and those who settled along its banks.

  • Day 01 : From Montreal
    Auberge du Lac Saint-Pierre : This riverside inn is surrounded by a magnificent garden, along Route 138, bordering the St. Lawrence. Just before the town of Trois-Rivières, bordering Lac Saint-Pierre, where the river widens.
  • Day 02 : Bécancour (Centre-du-Québec)
    Auberge Godefroy : From here, choice of several excursions to the Mauricie or Centre-du-Québec. Some attractions are near the inn, including boat cruises on the St. Lawrence.

    From Auberge Godefroy, continue toward Québec City, along Route 132 on the south shore of the river or by doubling back to Trois-Rivières to regain Highway 40 or Route 138 on the north shore, commonly know as the Chemin du Roy (king's roadway).
  • Day 03 : Mont Sainte-Anne
    Auberge La Camarine : After Québec City, continue along Route 138, on the north shore, direction Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and Mont Sainte-Anne. About 35 minutes from Québec City, 2 minutes from Mont Sainte-Anne, overlooking the river, already considerably wider.

    After Mont Sainte-Anne, the road continues east and across the beautiful Charlevoix region, where the mountains plunge directly into the river.
  • Day 04 : La Malbaie
    Auberges des Falaises : Auberge des Falaises is a hillside inn with a breathtaking view of the river.
  • Day 05 : La Malbaie
    Auberge des Peupliers : This French-Normandy style inn is minutes away from the river, within walking distance.

    A wide range of excursions and outdoor activities available from La Malbaie, including touring and hiking the spectacular gorges, whale watching cruises (from Sainte-Catherine-de-Tadoussac), golfing, the Manoir Richelieu casino.

    After La Malbaie, continue toward St-Siméon where you'll take the ferry to cross over to the south shore of the St. Lawrence to Rivière-du-Loup. Allow 90 minutes for the ferry ride. Departure times scheduled according to the tides.
  • Day 06 : Now on the South shore... until Montmagny
    On to Montmagny, westbound, direction Québec City and Montréal. Highway 20 West or follow Route 132, a rivershore road dotted with picturesque towns and many tourist attractions. Manoir des Érables : Steps from the river. Historic manor on a former seigniorial estate. Ideal for observing migrating Canada Geese as the manor is near the migration center.
  • Day 07 : Back to Québec City, or Montréal
    Option of visiting the Eastern Townships on the return leg of the trip. Two inns: Les Victorines du Lac (Lac Mégantic) and Auberge Lakeview Inn (Lac Brome/Knowlton). Or stop at Hostellerie Rive Gauche, bordering the Richelieu river, in Beloeil, a 40-minute drive from Montréal.

Riverside Circuit

  • Hostellerie Rive Gauche
    Some 40 minutes from Montréal via Highway 20, the inn borders the peaceful and historic Richelieu river, which links Lake Champlain to the St. Lawrence river. The Richelieu was often used by the warring French and English colonists.
  • Auberge Montebello
    A 90-minute drive from Montréal, direction Gatineau (Hull) - Ottawa, on Highway 15 North, then Highway 50 West, direction Lachute, and lastly, Route 148 toward Hull. The inn is located on the banks of the Outaouais river, a major fur trade route in the early colonial period.
  • Auberge Le Moulin Wakefield Mill
    The inn was once a grist and textile mill. It is built near the La Pêche river, and the MacLaren waterfalls are virtually at the foot of the inn. You can see them from the terrace and the dining room. Some rooms offer a view of the falls. Approximately 25 minutes from Ottawa, the Nation's Capital, and the city of Gatineau, upon entering Gatineau Park.
  • Auberge Le Baluchon
    The inn overlooks a sweeping estate in an enchanting setting, bordering the Rivière du Loup, surrounded by waterfalls, including the Magnan falls, home to a hydrotourist park. In summer, Le Baluchon stages plays on the river. The inn is 45 to 60 minutes from the town of Trois-Rivières.
  • Auberge des 21
    This charming inn is located northeast of Québec City (2- to 2.5-hour drive), along the Saguenay fjord and its spectacular vistas. Near the towns of Chicoutimi and Jonquière, and at the very door of Lac St-Jean (not far from Tadoussac and its whale watching cruises).

  • Hôtel La Sapinière
    The hotel stands at the far edge of the town of Val-David, via Highway 15 North, followed by Route 117 North. The log inn faces a small lake where you can paddleboat, canoe or rowboat. La Sapinière is renowned for its fine cuisine and exceptional wine list.
  • Les Victorines du Lac
    The Victorian style inn is located in an immense park, right on Lac Mégantic. Unspoiled natural beauty. The inn is nestled among splendid century-old red pine trees. Combine calm and cozy comfort, with outdoor activities and visiting the region's attractions.
  • Le Grand Lodge Mont-Tremblant
    The hotel is right on Lac Ouimet, as soon as you enter the Tremblant resort area, not far from the ski hills. Calculate a 2- to 2.5-hour drive from Montréal, along Highway 15 North and Route 117 North. The hotel features fireplace suites and is close to all summer and winter activities (shuttle service to Mont-Tremblant). Swimming and paddleboating on the lake, facing the hotel.
