Succulent Apple Cinnamon Puffs

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/8 tsp red food coloring
  • 5 apples
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp softened butter
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Methods:

  • Boil to a syrup, about 3 minutes, 1 cup of sugar, the water and the red food coloring.
  • Peel and thinly slice the apples: put into a 8" X 12" baking dish. Pour syrup over apples.
  • Sift together the flour, the baking powder, the salt, the shortening and the milk.
  • Take a spoonful of dough, make into a ball and make a hole on top to place in some slices of apple. Repeat with rest of dough.
  • Mix together 2 tbsp of sugar, the butter and cinnamon.
  • Place a little of the above mixture over the apples. Bake entire dish in a preheated oven (375°F) for 25-30 minutes.
