Montréal, Québec — June 5, 2007 — A blaze ravaged through Estrimont Suites & Spa in the overnight of May 25 to 26, 2007. The nearly 70 firefighters finally extinguished the flames at 5:15 Saturday morning. The fire was likely started by a cigarette inadvertently thrown in the cedar mulch piled near a wall next to the inn's bar. Damages are estimated at over $2.5 million. Here is how the establishment is recovering from the incident.
First, 60 staff members were let go as a result of the fire, resulting in the opening of an employment office. Former Estrimont Suites & Spa employees have already received over 50 job offers.
Also, the establishment was able to recover its databases. It immediately set up a reservation center for the purpose of either refunding guests who had booked for the coming months or redirecting them to other Easter Townships or Québec Resorts establishments, as per their preference. The reservation center's phone number is 1 800 567-7320.
As for the inn itself, it is being demolished next week, and will not reopen for at least six months, i.e. not before late 2007. Estrimont Suites & Spa is being rebuilt to include several improvements. Vacationers can look forward to an enjoyably relaxing stay at the new inn.
